About Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, run by Audubon, protects the largest remaining old-growth bald cypress forest in the world, some of its trees centuries old. A boardwalk loop takes you through pine flatwoods, wet prairie and the cypress swamp, where you may see wading birds, alligators and, in season, rare orchids. It is about 45 minutes’ drive north-east of Naples; check opening hours, which change with the seasons.

Why it's on our list

  • Old-growth bald cypress
  • Boardwalk
